The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a specialized medical unit designed to provide intensive care for newborn infants who are born prematurely or with serious medical conditions. NICUs are equipped with advanced medical equipment and highly trained healthcare professionals who specialize in the care of newborns, including neonatologists, pediatric nurses, respiratory therapists, and other specialists. In the NICU, newborns receive round-the-clock monitoring, specialized medical treatments, and supportive care to address their unique medical needs. This may include respiratory support, intravenous (IV) nutrition, temperature regulation, and management of conditions such as jaundice or infections. The goal of the NICU is to provide the highest level of care to newborns in order to optimize their health outcomes and ensure their safe transition to home.
